Nightmare traffic lights please resolve

Reported via mobile in the Current Roadworks category anonymously at 17:37, Tuesday 7 September 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Spent 1 hour yesterday waiting to cross the bridge. Pls revert traffic lights to smaller version and provide on site resource during rush hour. Not reasonable to continue like this affecting 100s of cars daily.

Council ref: ENQ21904923

  • You need to have a person there to stop people coming to Abingdon from entering the narrow one lane part unless they can clear it. At the moment, what happens is that there is a queue towards the town centre, people coming into the town enter the narrow part, can't move forward and then when the light changes, the people going out of the town can't go either. This then ends up causing a full gridlock in the triangle system.

The ridiculous thing this morning (27/9) was that there was a guy in a yellow uniform who was clearly working for you, but he did nothing, except move a couple of cones. What you need to do, at least for mornings, is to have a person with a stop sign there to make sure that nobody enters the narrow one lane part unless it's clear that they can exit it as well. The cost of that is tiny compared to the cost the traffic delay now causes for everyone.

The least you could do is to put a sign there saying:"DO NOT ENTER THE ONE LANE PART UNLESS THE OTHER SIDE IS CLEAR SO THAT YOU CAN EXIT IT AS WELL". Many people probably don't understand that by moving forward they are actually making their own travel slower.
