Dangerous road markings

Reported via desktop in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category by Graeme Rolfe at 10:33, Friday 13 August 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

This is a response to the original issue having the State changed to: No further action, yesterday by Oxfordshire County Council I have the following comments... *This roundabout is actually the worst signed/marked of all the ones on the ring road. *We all know that this practice of marking the right hand lane with a forward arrow was adopted because of an EU directive which no other European country adopted, or at least non that I have driven in! *If you mark the right lane with a forward arrow you risk UK drivers trying to use it to go straight ahead. There are more UK drivers using this roundabout than foreign. *The so-called right arrow as you enter the roundabout is not clearly visible and if/when drivers do see it, it is too late by then. *The fact that the right lane is marked I'LEY for Iffley simply makes matters worse as it conflicts with the forward arrow. *Why is this roundabout marked differently to other local roundabouts? Others have a right arrow in the right lane. *Local DVSA staff have also admitted to being confused with the markings. How are they supposed to apply rules to driving tests when markings on roundabouts are different and conflicting?

  • OCC appears to not take this very, very, busy traffic area seriously. There have been several reports from the road stop signals not having adequate time for vehicles to stop, and subsequently merging of all the roads leading up to & onto roundabout area, to poor road surface and road markings. It's a shame that resident near too, and whom use this area, are not being listened too in a serious of need manner. It is believed that if they themselves had to deal with these contestant traffic issues, something would be done in a more expedite manner.

There is constant horn honking, spending and traffic issues. Please OCC take heed to the residents concerns. Thank you.
