Blind Bend

Reported via desktop anonymously at 11:44, Wed 11 August 2021

Sent to Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

This bend needs a convex mirror possibly attached to the streetlight as you cannot see vehicles coming in the opposite direction and it is quite a tight bend.

Council ref: ENQ21903084

  • Thank you for your report. We have assessed it and found that it does not currently meet the criteria for intervention, so will not be fixing at this time.

    The reason why we do not allow new mirrors to be put on the highways/streets. This is because experience shows that rather than improving safety, a mirror could increase safety risks, which include;

    Reflect light and interfere with a driver's vision

    Reduce the ability to judge an oncoming vehicle's speed

    Create an unreasonable dependence on the mirror

    If dirty, distorts or restricts the view

    Be an easy target for vandals

    State changed to: Investigation complete
