Solar illuminated 30 mile sign - demolished and needs replacing

Reported via desktop in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category anonymously at 14:41, Monday 12 July 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

I wonder if you might be able to help me? Until very recently there was a solar powered 30 mile an hour illuminated sign on the round of this dangerous blind bend. The light and the entire concreted in base were, ironically, taken out completely by someone speeding around the corner who didn’t make it. If that had been a pedestrian, horse and rider (there are two yards directly opposite with horses – it is the main access for riders ), or a cyclist this undoubtedly would have resulted in a fatality. The whole issue of speed and signage needs to be revisited before there is a fatality. Is there anything you can do to help with this before there is a serious accident? The issue has become far worse since the opening of the 50 mile an hour by-pass, as drivers sling shot off that and just keep going at speed. People do not treat this as part of a village but an extension to the by-pass. If you are able to help, this really could save lives. If you are unable to help directly, would you be able to sign post me to the right place for this message? Thank you in advance for your help.

  • I have not been kept informed of any intended actions or progress towards rectifying the demolished speed sign - meanwhile the traffic is getting faster and an accident increasingly likely.

  • I have still not received any communication whatsoever. Sign not replaced and traffic constantly getting faster on the blind bend.
