Overhanging vegetation obstructing forward visibility on bend in carriageway

Reported via desktop in the Grass and Hedges category anonymously at 09:11, Monday 28 June 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

There is significant overhanging of vegetation as you turn the corner when approaching from the south, forcing vehicles into the middle/ other side of carriageway. This is dangerous for oncoming vehicles and other road users, particularly cyclists. Please can it be arranged for this vegetation to be cut back, if on private land can a request be sent to the landowner to arrange for this.

  • Thank you for your report. I have visited the site you pinpointed on the map, in front of 140 - 142 North Hinksey Lane, and couldn't find the 'significant overhanging of vegetation as you turn the corner when approaching from the south' you refer to, see photos. After looking along the road I assume you mean the overhanging bush/tree, by the corner, on the East side of St. Lawrence Church, see photos 1 and 3?

  • Thank you, yes, it is this bush as seen in your photo 3. Sorry my pin point drop was not 100% accurate. When approaching from the south in a vehicle the overhang does mean that you are more in the middle of the carriageway which is dangerous for vehicles travelling on the opposite side of the road, esp. those on bicycles.

  • Thank you for your report. I have assessed the issue that you have identified. I have requested a 28 day notice be sent to the owner of the property, whose vegetation is overgrowing and obstructing this carriageway, to cut it back.
