This storm pipe belongs to Oxfordshire County Council – yet OCC keeps closing reports about the blockage / restricted flow at its outlet without ensuring those it deems responsible have carried out works consequently the problem remains (see image).

Summarised below are the report dates over the past month and OCC responses which indicate that OCC is not following up to ensure the problem affecting its pipe outlet has been cleared by those it deems responsible.

Reported 11 May 2021. OCC response 13 May 2021 ‘This report is not the responsibility of Oxfordshire County Council and will be passed to Thames Water’

Re-reported 13 May 2021 OCC response 11 June 2021 ‘Thank you for your enquiry. I have visited the site and assessed the problem that you have identified. Unfortunately it does not meet our current intervention criteria so I cannot arrange a repair. We will continue to monitor this during our routine inspections’

Re-reported 19 May 2021 OCC response 11 June 2021 ‘Thank you for your enquiry. I have visited the site and assessed the problem that you have identified. Unfortunately it does not meet our current intervention criteria so I cannot arrange a repair. We will continue to monitor this during our routine inspections’

  • Contrary to what Oxfordshire Council Council is stating on Fix My Street Thames Water has stated in an email received today 17 June 2021 that Oxfordshire County Council has NOT made contact with anyone at TW. This is the exact wording in the TW email 'You had previously contacted Oxford County Council (OCC) to report this issue through Fix My Street and they’ll be in touch with us directly if they wish to discuss it. At this stage, we haven’t received any contact from OCC.'

  • Today 30 June 2021 Thames Water has emailed to say the following: 'I’m sorry you’ve had to contact us again regarding the repairs to the lane. I have reviewed your response and can confirm that yet, we have received no further correspondence from Oxford County Council (OCC) regarding the issue that you reported to them. We will discuss this issue with them directly once they do make contact.'

So in this report trail OCC states it has contacted TW but TW continues to state it has heard nothing. However, what is odd is that TW knows this issue has been reported here on Fix My Street which indicates that OCC must have tried to make contact for it to know this (and possibly a GDPR breach has occurred too). Please OCC and TW for the sake of all the residents of Clifton who all dutifully pay their Council Tax and Water Rates please unblock the outflow of this pipe. Thank you.

Thames Water still maintains, contrary to Oxford County Council claims, that it (Thames Water) has not been contacted by OCC regarding this problem despite OCC stating on Fix My Street on more than one occasion that it has contacted TW.

I quote Thames Water Customer Services 12 July 2021 'Once more, we have received no correspondence from OCC regarding the issue that you reported to them. We will discuss this issue with them directly if they do make contact.'

This is extraordinary - OCC and TW appear to have opposing recollections of any communication having occured between them.

Posting this problem on Fix My Street was not done for 'fun' but to HELP both OCC and TW so they can mitigate a potentially bigger and more expensive problem to themselves, to all, from occurring. It was posted and is being updated with good intent not malace!
