Road traffic mirrors are not allowed to be placed on any area of the highway maintainable at public expense.
The position of the County Council on road traffic mirrors is as follows :-
The county do not provide or support the use of road mirrors on the highway. The image they provide can be misleading in terms of vehicle speed and distance giving drivers a false sense of security, potentially leading to vehicles emerging injudiciously. They are prone to vandalism, fogging in poor atmospheric conditions and glare from the sun or car headlights. If, however, permission is granted by a landowner adjacent to but off the highway and, therefore, outside the jurisdiction of the County, a suitable post and mirror may be erected. The County could accept no responsibility for a mirror so erected.
