Lack of Road Closure Warning Signs
Reported via mobile in the Road Markings category anonymously at 07:45, Thu 10 June 2021
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
I am unsure I am emailing the correct parties, however my email is to raise a formal complaint regarding the lack of road closure traffic warning signs on the A420 just before the Coxwell Road, Faringdon, roundabout - please see picture attached - this morning at approximately 03:40.
When on my way to work this morning, 10th June 2021, I had to suddenly brake and immediately turn left off the A420 onto the Coxwell Road roundabout as the road ahead was closed on the A420 - I was speeding at the National speed limit demanded - 60mph. As there were no road closure signals at all, I could have crashed and something worse could have happened.
I would like to know why there were no signals on the road and if someone is going to take responsibility over this as it could have killed someone.
Please contact me on 07478723588 or reply to this email if you require more information.
Please also advise if this is not the correct email recipient/complaints procedure.
Many thanks
Kind regards,
Amanda Santos

Good afternoon, Following on from your FixMyStreet Enquiry, I have done some investigations and have found that the Road was closed due to a Road Traffic Collision in the early hours of the morning further down the road. Thames valley Police would have requested that the road be closed as it would be unsafe to allow traffic to continue along the A420 until the collision had been cleared. Due to the nature of Emergency Road Closures it can be quite difficult to erect signage in the same manner as a programmed road closure where there are plenty of warning signs. Plus the fact that, but it would have also been dark when you came across the road closure so forward vision of the signage would have been difficult as the area appears to be unlit. I can certainly see that coming straight out of a 50mph and accelerating into the 60mph zone only to be immediately faced with a Road Closed sign must have been very alarming, However, with this being an Emergency Road Closure and it was in the hours of darkness, I'm not sure what else could have been done. Kind Regards,
