Island on the road near Kingsgrove new housing estate
Reported via desktop anonymously at 11:50, Mon 7 June 2021
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and Vale of White Horse District Council less than a minute later
This island has been put on an otherwise clear road with no warning and seems to have little purpose. Because of it's positioning in the road I had to replace my back wheel after it hit the outside edge of it. I am one of many complaints about this apparently

Dear Sophie Wells,
Thank you for your email regarding the traffic island on the A417 Reading Road.
This traffic island has been installed as part of a number of supporting infrastructure works for the Crab Hill residential development to the north of Reading Road. I have reviewed the Developers drawings and it appears this island has been installed to aid pedestrians crossing the road and also to help slow down passing traffic in this area. I have reviewed the drawings and this has been designed with a minimum lane width of 3.3 metres provided, which enables all vehicles to traverse this space safely given the average car width is 1.8m – 2.0m in width. I am therefore satisfied that this traffic island is satisfactory for this environment.
Kind regards
Steve Blackmore
