Access cover to access point buckled

Reported via mobile anonymously at 09:37, Thursday 3 June 2021

Sent to Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

There are two access points to what we assume are drains outside our property, and one of the covers has buckled making it unsafe should anyone accidentally step on it. It is sort of obscured by grass at the moment, outside outside 107 Leach Road. I can't say how long it has been like that as we only moved here in April, and that is the condition we noticed it in. I have contacted landscaping with Cherwell District Council re trimming the grass as I believe the access covers fall outside of our boundary line and thus we are not responsible for maintaining that piece of lawn.

Many thanks in advance!

  • Hello, I have tried responding to an email I received. This now requires immediate attention. Two people have now had accidents, resulting in injuries. With all due respect, there are a lot of children in the area and if a grown man can fall through, a child has no hope. Please do not hesitate to have this rectified with haste. It's an on-going danger, one extremely close to my property, and I do not want to be associated with the council's lack of due care. If you need evidence of these accidents, feel free to contact me to request them as they were captured by my video doorbell - that should be all the "investigation" needed.

  • Good Afternoon,

We have received several emails in the CDC Customer Services inbox regarding the particular drain cover in question. The issue regarding the long grass surrounding the drain has been passed through to our landscapes team to determine who is responsible for sorting this and we will be in touch with the customer as soon as we know to advise.

Regarding the drain cover, one of the emails received had a video recorded via a ring doorbell of one of the accidents that has taken place. We have tried to attach this to the update however fixmystreet will only allow photos so this has not been possible. Based on the video, we would advise that it is extremely dangerous and the issue at hand needs to be looked into as soon as possible to avoid further accidents from happening. As advised from the customer, two people have already fallen and been injured as a result of the cover not being fixed.

Please could this be looked into as a priorty.

    Kind Regards,

Georgia #02951 CDC Customer Services Advisor

  • This report is not the responsibility of Oxfordshire County Council and will be passed to the relevant organisation. This is a Thames Water issue. The grass area has now been cut. Regards
