Traffic light pole obstructing cycle lane on new Seacourt junction lights
Reported via desktop in the Traffic Lights (permanent only) category by Graham Wright at 17:39, Wednesday 12 May 2021
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
The recent Seacourt traffic light and cycle light changes have resulted in a significant danger for cyclists on the outbound cycle path beside Wickes. The cycle path goes around the back of the bus lay-by, and then returns to be directly beside the carriageway. However, cyclists then continuing are faced by the metal pole for the pedestrian lights directly in their path. There is no warning of the pole, which is painted black. This is an accident waiting to happen. A cyclist will not see the pole (e.g. in darkness) and collide with it. Urgent consideration is needed to re-site this pole.

A white line (road marking) from the kerb edge where the information tactile paving is tapered towards the pole to provide visual deflection for approaching cyclists is to be included. In addition, to help visibility, white reflective bands are also to be added to the signal poles.
