Unsafe condition of pavement between Hanborough and Badon

Reported via desktop in the Pavements category by Penelope Marcus at 16:46, Monday 29 March 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The pavement running on the north side of the A4095 from before the junction with Lower Road up to the Hanborough Parish boundary near the junction with Cassington road is overgrown with weeds, and covered with gravel from the Aggregate lorries turning out of Lower Road. The weeds and projecting bramble so restrict the width of the clear footway for pedestrians that at most points it does not meet the the minimum width of 1m, let alone 1.5m At places it is reduced to .5m. Pedestrians are forced over towards the kerb of the pavement. This is dangerous and unsafe. In addition, the reduction of the clear footpath does not provide the required width of 2m. for wheelchairs to pass, or 1.5m for a wheelchair and person alongside, or the 1m. for a wheelchair with no room alongside. There are no 'layby's so wheelchairs to pull over when another is on the path. This is a busy rural road, its speed limit 50mph, HGVs and other trucks project into the pavement space, already narrowed by the overgrown weeds and bramble. The pavement needs to be cleared immediately to provide legal width for pedestrians and wheelchair users for its increasing use from spring onwards. However, this pavement from the Hanborough Parish-Bladon Parish boundary continues up into Bladon and is in as bad, and unacceptable state as the previous stretch. The whole length of the pavement from Lower Road up into Bladon needs to be cleared so as to provide safe passage for pedestrians and wheelchair users.
