Extremely dangerous temporary coverings over cyclepath/pavement

Reported via desktop anonymously at 12:29, Monday 29 March 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and South Oxfordshire District Council less than a minute later

There are road works outside of Culham site where they have cut through the cycle path/pavement. This is on the path travelling between Culham station and the site.

There are temporary coverings over the cut. These are not secured and slide when you cycle over them. A gap has developed between the two covers wide enough for a bike wheel to fall through which would cause serious injury. This has been here for at least a week.

I attempted to find a contractor to inform them but I could not find them when I cycled to the Culham site this morning.

  • This is still there when I passed yesterday afternoon and has been abandoned by the contractors. The gap has now widened two approximately 50 mm - easily wide enough the swallow a bike or wheelchair wheel. I dread to think of the consequences if a cyclist were to disappear down the hole between these covers!

  • This has been fixed but I'm not sure that this was through action of the council and more through the end of the road works.
