Road Restriction, Satwell.

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 12:46, Sunday 14 March 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The highway outside the redundant Lamb Public House Satwell, has been restricted by the increased width of the verge. As can be seen from the photos attached, this has caused the traffic to be directed to the opposite bank,. As a result a gulley has collapsed and large amounts of water collect. Can the increased verge width be reduced back to its original size, bollards removed and gulley reinstated on the opposite verge.

  • The orange traffic cone is being placed further into the road and the verge is being developed on that side, so that the road is now pinched into a single lane. This is another notice to the SODC that this is an accident waiting to happen right before this corner.

  • This was originally reported to the council last summer (2020) that someone was putting twigs, branches, mud and lawn clippings onto the road to narrow it on the corner by the old pub. it was marked as investigated in March 2021 and supposedly the debris was going to be removed. As of April 23 it has not been. It is dangerous and illegal and the council should come out immediately to restore the road. I have personally witnessed the man adding debris and dirt to this area.

  • The owner of the Lamb has been undertaking a process to narrow the road alongside his property by placing vast amounts of detritus in the road, mud, grass clippings, general garden waste etc. He has subsequently placed large stones and traffic cones in the road. His actions go against multiple Road Traffic Acts and the council have a legal obligation to investigate, clear and prosecute the offenders. WHAT is being done? Every day there is a severe risk of a major accident- please act !

  • This problem is getting worse. The traffic cones are now so far into tte middle of the road that it forces you onto the opposite side, just before a blind bend. This is highly dangerous. How can an individual be allowed to commandeer a section of public road in this way?

  • This issue has been ongoing for over a year now -

There was an update posted in March this year which said

Following todays site visit ,and meeting with the resident of the former pub.He has agreed to refrain from placing his bin and other objects onto the carriage edge. The issue of the narrowing of the carriageway has been passed to the relevant team who will be arranging for the necessary works to be completed asap

This issue is still in place and SODC have done nothing about the works required - the online case has now been closed and nothing has been sorted - it is a real hazard and very dangerous as cars cut through at great speed.

  • Still no action by SODC Highways, to fix the problem caused by the owner/occupant of the Lamb, Satwell, depositing debris and garden rubbish on the highway. The wet conditions have caused a situation, as can be seen, where the highway is virtually blocked with water logging, caused by the protruding verge and crushed ditch opposite, resulting from the debris. It is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs, which will solely caused by lack of action the rubbish deposited on the Highway. Please resolve as an absolute matter of urgency.
