Poor state of road following roadworks
Reported via mobile in the Current Roadworks category anonymously at 15:39, Mon 8 March 2021
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
Recent works carried out in this location have left an unacceptable road surface. This was a new road surface laid only last year. Now following work by Crest Nicholson, the house developer to link up to the main sewer, the road has been left uneven with holes and dips in the surface . This is now a source of excessive noise as vehicles pass over it which we unfortunately hear in our house. In future if not put right, this poor surface will break up causing potholes that will have to be repaired by you and paid for ultimately by us from council tax. It is unacceptable that work on a main road is carried to such a low and unacceptable standard.

Since the road was re-opened 9 days ago there has been constant rattling from the new manhole covers day AND night. Crest Nicholson have been asked three times to rectify (Mon 1st March, Fri 5th March and Mon 8th March). Video evidence has also been forwarded. Can someone please take some action. Thank you.

After experiencing many weeks of roadworks outside our house we have now been left with an unacceptable road surface. The road wasn’t swept properly and there are lots of loose stones being thrown up by traffic. This is a danger to the many pedestrians and school children using the footpath alongside the main road as well as a risk for cars to skid behind us when we turn into our driveway. The surface itself is now uneven and noise levels have increased in our home. Please could someone investigate this.

The drain cover has either been fitted incorrectly or has moved since being installed as it is constantly rattling as vehicles pass over it. This is heard inside our home and is unacceptable. The consequence of this is the effect on my mental health.

The drain covers were reset and we did get some relief from the constant rattling but this relief only lasted a couple of weeks. The drain covers are once again rattling as bad as they were before. The type of cover used are obviously unsuitable for this heavy traffic application. The temporary road surface still hasn’t been resurfaced although a date of the 20th May was predicted for it. This poor workmanship is having a detrimental impact on at least three households and is quite frankly a disgrace.

Still no action to quieten the manhole covers and what are you going to do to slow the traffic through this stretch of road . It’s supposed to be 30 - hardy anybody abides by this limit.

I fully support all the previous comments. The 'resurfacing' seems to be of a very poor standard and both new manhole covers have been rattling constantly day AND night for over three months (apart from a brief respite when they were reseated). This was first reported at the beginning of March, we are now mid June. I appreciate that you must be constantly inundated with requests but can somebody please confirm that action will be taken shortly as the constant noise is now having a detrimental affect on our mental wellbeing. Thank you.

The most recent attempt to quieten the manhole cover outside the old School has failed and is now more noisy than the one that was there before. Why can’t work be done properly first time! This is continuing to cause constant annoyance and sleep deprivation to us that live in Old School House.

Still no action has been taken either to quieten the manhole covers or re surface the disgraceful repair to the road surface made by the house builders contractors. This constant noise is having a detrimental effect on my and my family’s mental health.

Once again the drain covers recently install by the house developer Crest Nicholson are constantly banging as vehicles pass over them. A temporary repair was attempted but this is now ineffective again . Can this please be sorted out along with poor state of the road following the installation of the drains. We have had to put up with this constant noise for nearly a year now and it is definitely effecting my mental health.

Another week of interrupted sleep and constant noise from the drain covers . Never once has Fix my street ever responded to the posts associated with the problem. We are told to use this platform to report issues but I’m thinking what is the point ?

Couldn't agree more. We report an issue in a manner recommended by OCC/Highways and hear nothing in almost a year ... Absolutely appalling.

Another week of interrupted sleep from recently installed noisy clanging manhole covers in the road directly outside our house. Still no feedback from fix my street or Oxfordshire highways as to when this will be addressed.

The manhole cover at BOTH ends of the trench are now clanging away 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They have been re-seated twice yet the problem persists. Can a permanent solution be sought with some haste please.

Woken again this morning by a loud bang ( see time on post) from a vehicle passing over the loose drain covers outside. This will now continue all day so getting back to sleep is impossible. Still nothing is done to address this or any feedback from Oxfordshire highways on what they intend to do about it. Absolute disgrace!

I have today contacted 'Fixmystreet' directly to ascertain if this total lack of communication regarding an issue raised with Oxfordshire highways almost a year ago is to be expected/acceptable. I await their response.

Another week of clanging drain covers and interrupted sleep as a consequence. Still no feedback from fix my street on when this will be addressed. This is now a year since these badly fitted drain covers were installed and how a contractor was allowed to leave the road surface in such a state speak volumes on the competency of the contractor working on behalf of Crest Nicholson and also Oxfordshire highways for accepting it back in this state.

Another week of excessive road noise from the botched road repair and poorly installed drain covers. The noise from the clanging drain covers is getting worse and I fear it may collapse. This is causing interrupted sleep and stress to my wife and I. Please at least reply to this post and update us on when this might be addressed or what is the point of this forum.

Another week of banging drain covers , interrupted sleep. I have called Oxfordshire highways and was told someone would contact me but as yet no one has. This is a disgraceful response from OCC.

The manhole covers have been inspected by a Thames Water contractor and he has confirmed their failure. They are now making a very loud bang every time vehicle passes over them. This is continuing to cause us (living at Old school house ) distress .

After several phone calls and assurance from OCC that someone would contact me , no one has and nothings been done . Over a year now of continual noise from these badly fitted drain covers.

This issue has now been outstanding for a year with 21 entries on the timeline. During this time there has not been a single acknowledgment/comment from OCC/Highways. If I was being generous I'd say that this is an extremely poor service and not fit for purpose.

The noisy drain covers are now worse than even and are starting to crack under the weight of traffic. The concrete surround is also breaking up. It is only a matter of time before this drain cover fails completely and may cause an accident if it does so. I will give you fair warning. If the drain cover collapses and causes an accident I will inform the press and other media that I have repeatedly reported and warned you for over a year now.

The noisy drains is now worse than ever due to the fact that the road has been resurfaced and the drain covers are now lower than the road surface so the wheels of vehicles drop down on to the covers. It would have been sensible to replace them when the road was resurfaced but they weren’t. We subsequently were given the date of the 23rd when a paco patch will be fitted but this has come and gone still without anything being done. When will it be done now ?
