Rotten stanchions on bridge handrail over River Windrush
Reported via desktop anonymously at 15:41, Mon 8 February 2021
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and West Oxfordshire District Council less than a minute later
Stanchions supporting the downstream handrail on the bridge over the western branch of the river Windrush near Langdale Gate in Witney, OX28 6EY, are very rotten with a lot of wood missing at the bottom where the stanchions attach to the bridge base. When people lean on the handrail it moves out over the water, which is currently in spate, and therefore dangerous.

The centre of the bridge has movement which may mean that the base of the bridge is rotten and feels very unsafe when walking across. In addition the non slip surface is coming detached and will cause a trip hazard.

The bridge problem has not been addressed or repaired. The width of the bridge has been reduced and it is difficult for people walking, using buggies or wheelchairs and the cyclists who all use this access to the town centre. The wooden railings are broken beyond repair. Please attend and improve as soon as possible. Thank you.
