Dip in the road

Reported via mobile in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 09:19, Thursday 21 January 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Water gathers at this point every time we have rain. Cars try and drive around this causing our bank to deteriorate as they drive over it. It needs raising or appropriate drainage.

  • Hi, as you can see in the pictures, the issue continues to be a problem and my bank is being eroded away. The 2nd picture is my water meter which is getting closer and closer to the road as people drive around the water to avoid going through it. Can I please get an update?

  • Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been inundated with enquiries in the last month. I have looked at our drainage infrastructure on our system and there doesn't appear to be any in that area to provide a drainage point. The best thing to do here is to patch the road to bring the road level up in the dipped area to lessen the depth. I can't give a time scale on this at the present time but will add to our list for the coming financial year.

  • Thank you for the update, that would be great. Can anything be done to repair my bank also please? The deterioration of it is due to people driving around this water every time it rains

  • Good afternoon, we can do a bit of topsoiling and seeding to edge of the bank where it has been pushed back to tidy it up. Incidentally I did a quick check on the highway boundary records and I need to make you aware that according to our maps the bottom of the bank is actually highway. I only bring it up as you have referred to the bank as being under your ownership.
