Parking on path causing damage to pavement, & pedestrian hazard

Reported via desktop in the Pavements category by Mrs s. Nicholls at 15:48, Tue 19 January 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The wide pavement outside these shops etc. is always used to park cars these days. It is causing repeated damage/ pot holes and is an obstruction and danger to pedestrians. The cars and vans seem to consider they take priority. I think the council should cut a parking area into this pavement, leaving what is left for pedestrians before there is an accident. The whole pavement is in a dreadful condition.

  • Thank you for your enquiry. This issue has been passed onto the relevant team for investigation.

    State changed to: Investigating

  • Submitted reports regarding the very same issue both in April, & again today with new report. Sometimes reports are marked "closed as fixed" before they have been. I see in this case though, yours remains as "in progress" from January. This is a major safety issue for the pedestrians, especially as houses from the 30's with quite a few elderly walking to get groceries.

  • Thank you for your report. We have assessed it and found that it does not currently meet the criteria for intervention, so will not be fixing at this time. Vehicles parking in either a dangerous position or in such a manner as to cause an obstruction of the public highway are commingling an offence under Section 22 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, this legislation is enforced by Thames Valley Police.
