3 or 4 times a year our neighbour pays for a man to come and clear this drain/tube/inlet as much as possible but silt and gravel still block it up over time and it needs clearing out/blowing out properly. He can only clear it basically and not all the way through.
When it rains hard, there A LOT of water as it comes down from the main road, and travels down Nottingham Fee to the lowest point in the village which is here basically! So this drain needs to work well.
The result of the slowly draining water is that the water sits on the road opposite our houses and the Red Lion pub for a while which all suffer greatly from damp (as we are also the lowest point in the village, we have no damp proof course) - and all the water comes off the road and it's so important to preserve these grade 2 listed buildings.
