Badly fitted manhole cover causing surrounding road surface to break up
Reported via desktop in the Manhole category anonymously at 16:15, Monday 11 January 2021
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
Directly at the traffic lights on the lane outbound from Oxford, there is a manhole cover which does not fit properly. The vibrations from this are now causing the surrounding road surface to break up, with a pothole forming. This is close to the kerb, therefore potentially dangerous to cyclists.

Thank you for reporting this issue. I have visited the location you pinpointed on the map, on the traffic lights crossing, in West Way, Botley by Westminster Way junction, see photos. We were already aware of this badly fitted manhole cover and this issue had been reported, to Thames Water who are responsible for it, several times. The 'vibrations causing the surrounding road surface to break up' issue has now been raised with Thames Water, again, as it needs a permanent repair to stabilise the frame. I have also submitted an order for one of our crews to attempt to repair the pothole but I think it will be shaken out in no time, as it is a busy bus route out of oxford.
