Lane from the B480 to B481 serving Russells Water and RG 96EX The road surface on stretch between Russells Water and The 5 Horseshoes is particularly bad [to the point of dangerous, for cyclists at least].
We appreciate that both money and resources are tight at this difficult time and that, after all, this is a minor road. Nevertheless, it should be kept to a reasonable standard, that's not evident at the moment.
It is evident that increased and frequent use by rigid 3 and 4 axle lorries of 25 and 30 tonnes respectively, on top of other lighter increased traffic, has much contributed to the present awful state. This, together with a patching strategy by the Local Authority (LA) has not helped.
It seems to us that it's correct to think that the number of Planning permissions passed by the LA is presently in large part a contributory cause to the extra traffic and that appropriate infrastructure improvement and maintenance should be part of the considerations within the LA. We imagine but, have not yet identified, that this infrastructure theme is probably included in some of the published LA Strategy aspirations and p
We believe that the last time this stretch of Minor road was repaired, sealed and chipped along its whole length was in the summer of 1997. We then had a new Mondeo .... and recall the chips, in the hot weather, flying up on the nice shiny paint!
What is probable, we think, given the number of potholes and 'semi' potholes together with extensive longitudinal cracking is that water ingress plus a hard frosty spell will cause a lot more deterioration. This would cost a lot more to correct with 'base' work under the top layers

The very deep potholes on this stretch of road have been reported by many people and on many occasions. It’s high time the council got them repaired before there is a serious accident. They fill with water very quickly and are then impossible to see. Why is no action being taken?
