Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
This problem occurred in Tier 4 conditions, so little traffic which I am sure contributed: When driving west along the A40 on the approach to the rail bridge, I was overtaken by a hire car (so not local) who behaved as though they were driving along a dual carriageway (slowly and carefully pulling onto other lane, slowly making progress. As I approached the hill of the bridge brow, I realised what was happening and braked hard. I think that the hire car realised that they were going on the wrong side of the road up a blind summit of the rail bridge and very quickly pulled in and waved. I suspect that they were confused having been on the M40/A40 and having been round the roundabout got confused as the road became faster on leaving Oxford and assumed that it was dual carriageway. There had been no vehicles going in the opposite direction due to the Tier 4 restrictions I assume
I would strongly recommend the placing of the "Two-way traffic straight ahead" sign(s) between the A40/A44 roundabout and the rail bridge.
I particularly wanted to report this because of the fatal accident Zoe Powell on 12/10/20 https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/ news/ 18849355.inquests-a40-crash-victims/
