30MPH sign plus posts installed by highways knocked over by verge parking.

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
Over the last few months there has been a significant increase in visitors to Christmas Common. One by one the posts that existed along this verge to provide a safe path for walkers have been knocked down. The 30MPH sign, originally nearer the verge edge was repositioned by BT/Open Reach when laying cables, clumsy parking has increased the lean. Walkers cannot get past the parked cars and so have to walk in the road. As there is also a speeding problem this is not safe.

This photo illustrates how the posts provide a safe path for pedestrians and how verge parking forces pedestrians into the road to walk between cars parked on both sides of the road. This is made more dangerous due to an adjacent blind bend and a longstanding speeding problem.

The verges in the section of the road between the Fox & Hounds pub and The Old Church are rapidly degrading due to a combination of increased usage of the road by large vehicles and walkers parking cars. Local house owners have attempted to mitigate the problem by placing large logs and branches on the verges to define the carriageway on the Eastern side of the road and ex railway sleepers pinned into the road surface on the Western side (actually reducing the available width of the carriageway).
