Clearer signage for nee 20mph from A40 roundabout onto The Hill in Burford
Reported via mobile in the Road Markings category anonymously at 15:18, Sat 14 November 2020
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
The main 20mph sign if of course at the start of the road immediately off the roundabout but it is not that clear when drivers are more focussed on making sure the road is clear as they enter the roundabout. And cars are still speeding. The small signs are not obvious enough. Suggest a much clearer 20 sign/road painting at the crest of the Hill and also at the bottom of the hill as cars pick up speed, and from the other end after cars have cleared the bridge. Thank you.

The signing is present and correct and in accordance with signing regulations. It is up to drivers to be aware of the environment they are in and take note of signing.

Saying the signs meet the legal requirements wasn’t the issue. It was that they could be clearer or could have rumble strips to actually make the signs worth having, as at the moment they are almost universally ignored.

It is up to drivers to be aware of the environment they are in and take note of signing. The level of signing goes above and beyond that required by regulations and TVP have checked and are happy for the purposes of enforcement

Thank you for your report. The correct signage is in place and the signs are visible at either end of the 20mph limit. There is already a painted 20 on the carriageway at the top of The Hill.
