Bike lane is not adequately marked
Reported via mobile in the Road Markings category anonymously at 21:27, Wed 14 October 2020
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
The bike lane in Oakthorpe Rd is constantly blocked by cars whose owners are "just" popping into the Lloyd's bank, or the Coop, or especially Costa's cafe. This problem had been going on for a very long time. Drivers usually park half on the road, half on the pavement thus endangering both cyclists and pedestrians who have to go out into the oncoming traffic in Oakthorpe rd. Even though they may be individually only there for 5 or 10 mins there is a continual line of cars. This bike lane has a continuous white line but it is not coloured green, if it were coloured it may make it more obvious to the offenders. Also the business's that are drawing people to use their services especially on the corners of Oakthorpe Rd could be cautioned about their customers offensive behaviour and they could state they will refuse to serve offenders

As you can see in one photo cars that block the bike lane and pavement not only cause problems for bikes but for pavement users too. This electric wheelchair user was forced into the road into oncoming traffic, who of course were also inconvenienced

Bike forced into oncoming traffic

When a vehicle is parked on the bike lane and pavement it makes the lane for other traffic very narrow, large cars barely have enough room to pass

Today's incident shows the offender blocking the whole of the bike lane so even medium oncoming cars have barely enough room to get through, and the offending car is also very close to the banbury rd junction so bikes turning into Oakthorpe road are severely restricted and can't even see what is coming the other way before they go round the offending car into the oncoming traffic

Thank you for your report. This has been forwarded to the parking team for their attention. The lines in the area will be checked as well, but it is not current county highways policy to use coloured surface in new areas.
