Hedgehog road kills

Reported in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category anonymously at 13:36, Monday 21 September 2020

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Hi. There have been at least 3 hedgehogs killed along Brereton Drive, Grove this week. The mapping on hedgehogstreet.org supports this is becoming a black spot for these increasingly rare animals being killed by traffic, and increasing the risk of accidents. Is it possible to get a hedgehog warning sign installed at each end please now they have been approved for use https://www.google.com/ amp/ s/ www.bbc.co.uk/ news/ amp/ uk-48660420. Thanks from me and hedgehogs.

  • Thank you for your report. Hedgehogs hibernate during the winter so the signs would not be needed all year round, Oxfordshire County Council donate 'toad' warning signs to recognised protection groups which install the signs at specified times of the year and then remove them when they are not needed, we would be happy to do the same for hedgehogs if requested but would not carry out the works ourselves.

    State changed to: Investigation complete
