Large pothole outside The Ivy
Reported in the Pothole category anonymously at 12:25, Wed 16 September 2020
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
I reported this previously, but was told that it did not meet the criteria for repair. With all due respect, perhaps it is time to update the criteria such that it takes more seriously the current drive toward making cycling safe and inviting for all? It is one thing for young people to be agile and quick to react to sudden changes in the road surface, but that is not always the case for older people, Our streets need to support the general public.
Sudden big dips in the road when there are no cycling lanes are dangerous. Not only because you might lose your balance and fall if you hit them, but because you might get hit by another vehicle when you try to avoid hitting them. It isn't only about the real depth/danger of the pothole itself, but about cyclists' perception of the danger of hitting and the actions they take to avoid it. I urge to also take this, more subjective dimension, into account when you decide what to repair.

This was finally repaired after first being denied. It’s a reminder that it pays off to insist that the council maintain roads that are safe for everyone and not just cars.
