Phasing of Temporary Traffic Lights

Reported in the Current Roadworks category anonymously at 08:39, Tue 8 September 2020

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The phasing of the temporary traffic lights in Cholsey at the junction of Papist Way and Reading Road are causing long tailbacks in the southerly direction in the mornings. Schools are now back and the traffic lights controlling flow in the southerly direction on the Reading Road need to be on green for longer between 08:00-09:00 so parents on the school run do not get caught in long tail backs. The traffic was queued all the way back of of Cholsey towards Winterbrook when I passed in the northerly direction this morning. The phasing needs to flip for the afternoon school run so the lights controlling traffic in the northerly direction are on green for longer. This will allow better flow of traffic and greatly reduce pollution levels caused by idling traffic.

  • State changed to: Investigating

Updated by Oxfordshire County Council at 08:39, Tue 8 September 2020

  • Day 3 of these temporary lights. A. No evidence of why Thames Water have installed these lights. No one has been or is on site working. B. Have been causing traffic tailbacks now schools are back. Traffic has been queuing back to Caps Lane (from North) and Moulsford railway bridge (from South). C. No operative on-site to monitor traffic flows. When Thames Water previously had lights in this location their was a contractor on site permanently monitoring the phasing of the lights. Why not now?
