No proper footpath

Reported in the Pavements category by Neil Johnson at 09:08, Thursday 3 September 2020

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

On the 23/4/2020,me&the wife were walking from GWP to to wantage road when she took a heavy fall because footpath not tarmac linking GWP to old didcot,i noticed slade road&freeman road have tarmac footpaths linking new didcot(GWP)to old didcot,so i am puzzled why barleyfields footpath to pill pond footpath was’nt linked up like brasenose estate.Went for a walk yesterday&it is still very dangerous for the walker’s,perhaps it needs someone to lose their footing&fall into the road before any action taken. The developer has made millions of pounds building GWP,so extending that footpath would be small change for them. Not a very happy resident of didcot.

  • Good Morning Please could I ask that a load of gravel/shingle/wood bark or something suitable be put on the 1 yard stretch of ground between the main Harwell/Didcot Road over to Pill Pond from Slade Road. Every day I try to walk around Pill Pond (which is looking really good now) but unfortunately I have to cross from the bottom of Slade Road (No 2) over the main Harwell/Didcot Road avoiding all the traffic but as I cross the 1 yard of mud is dreadful as you enter Pill Pond. With all this rain we have just had it is worse than ever.

  • Thank you for your enquiry. I am sorry to hear about your wife’s fall whilst walking along the grass verge. I hope she has / is recovering.
Having spoken with the County Council’s Road Agreements Team I understand that no agreement has been made with the developer (Taylor Wimpey) to link Barleyfields with the Pill Pond footpath / cycle path, and I also understand that this issue was not picked up at the planning stage by the District Council.
Notwithstanding the above, County Council officers are meeting on site next week to discuss how best to resolve this situation, and your enquiry will be updated again when there is further information to report.
