Collision risk - (now very) hidden joining path near playground joining high speed cycling route creating high risk of collision and injury
Reported in the Footways and Pavement damage category anonymously at 17:18, Sun 9 August 2020
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
Children exiting the Friars Wharf playground, and adult walkers, are at risk of being hit by increasing numbers of cyclists travelling at high speeds on the north-side path of Thames. The joining path, from the playground, is not visible to cyclists on the riverside path, and the hedgerow along the back of the playground is overgrown, blocking the view of any oncoming pedestrians/cyclists. Collisions may also risk someone being knocked into the river as the riverside path here is narrow. The drop from the pavement to the river is about 6 ft here and there are rocks and metal debris near the surface. There have been several near misses in recent weeks, perhaps due to increased numbers of cyclists seemingly unfamiliar with the local area. A child could be hurt or killed. The location urgently needs signage or a slowing gate or similar (and the hedge being trimmed would also help from one direction). Cyclists are also travelling very fast on the main tow path on the south side of the river in this area - again, signage re. speeds/pedestrians/children might help.
