Thorney Leys: Speeding vehicles in 30mph zone
Reported in the Road Markings category anonymously at 14:27, Mon 3 August 2020
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 2 hours, 5 minutes later
Part of Thorney Leys where Guild Close joins is a 30mph zone down from 40mph on the rest of the road. The signs are very unclear and the majority of vehicles speed along there. The road is busy and also used by many lorries who also speed. There is nowhere for pedestrians to cross safely from Guild Close to the other side as there is no path to connect us to the crossing further down the road. There is a bend on the road where cars speed around making it very unsafe to cross anywhere along that part of the road. There are families and wheelchair users living in Guild Close and we take our life in our hands when crossing the road. Also, when pulling out of Guild Close via car there has been many near misses with cars speeding down the road. There was a crossing build closer to the roundabout on Thorney Leys but we have no access to it as there is no path only an uneven grass verge. Which gets muddy, has holes in and buggies & wheelchair users, elderly people are unable to use. Please could we have some speed awareness signs put up or cleaner 30mph signs, a sensor sign to let people know they are entering a 30mph zone, a safe crossing or a path to join us to the crossing further down the road. I am deeply concerned that there could be some kind of accident soon.

Further to your enquiry regarding the speed of vehicles on Thorney Leys Rod, Witney. Traffic entering Thorney Leys Road from Curbridge Road is already in a 30mph speed limit so there will be no change in the speed limit when they pass Guild Close. Traffic travelling on Thorney Leys Road from Station Road direction start off in a 40mph zone then the beginning of the 30mph speed area is clearly signed with 2 fairly new 30mph terminal speed signs. Traffic lights are also present along this route which indicate a 30mph limit unless otherwise signed wither terminal and repeater signs. If you are concerned that vehicles are travelling faster than the speed limit you should report this matter to Thames Valley Policy because they are the authority that would carry out speed tests. There may also be a Speed Watch group in your area that could look into this.
I noted there was a dropped kerb crossing point at the edge of Guild Close to enable people to cross over Thorney Leys Road to access the footway adjacent to Thorney Leys estate.
I will forward this report onto a colleague and ask him to reply to your request for a crossing point.

With respect, A dropped Kerb does not ‘enable’ people to cross, it enables some people to cross if there is no traffic speeding. What would help people cross would be a crossing, or a connected footpath to the roundabout, where there is crossing on the Thorney Leys side.
