The new gravel covers the edge of the path which slopes steeply into the canal. This means people think they are on a firm path but in fact they are on a slope into the canal with loose gravel. My 81 year old mother has just slipped down and fallen badly. If I hadn’t been with her to pull her up she would have ended up sliding into the canal. The edge of the path needs clear demarcation.

The new path has created an unanticipated problem, with the copious loose gravel covering the edge of the flat towpath and encouraging people to walk where the bank quickly and steeply descends into the canal. The overgrowth of reeds and weeds further encourages this. It is very dangerous and my mother now has a very bad and painful sprain to her right foot. She is very shaken and anxious.
