Extreme flooding

Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 08:59, Sunday 26 July 2020

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Every time there is torrential downpour Horsepond Road by the hamlet and Allwrights Cottages gets flooded and there is an inadequate soak away/drainage so the water then collects on the road causing huge flooding which then runs down into our gardens and into our properties at numbers 3 and 4 causing damage to our property and gardens. We need a solution ASAP as this happened last October.

The council came out and built a mound along our driveways out of tarmac but this has made the problem worse.

We need help urgently. We have as a community spent 5 hours using buckets and pumps to clear the water.

We have tried the fire brigade, 101 and tried any emergency number we can find but no one could point us in right direction.

Please help us so our properties don’t flood again as this is causing us extreme distress and also costing us money to put right.

  • Thank you for reporting this issue. This flooding issue is being investigated. A temporary tarmac bund was installed to try & reduce the water ponding o/s the Allwrights Cottages & send the water past the cottages to the next available roadside gullies. An upgrade to the existing highways drainage assets is needed & additional ones installing. in order to solve this issue on a permanent basis This will require a drainage design. This will be undertaken in the future. However with resources & funding already over stretched your patience will be appreciated at this time as we can not provide an exact date as to when this will happen. This report is now closed.
