Increasing numbers of HGVs using unsuitable country lane
Reported in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 10:51, Sat 27 June 2020
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
There has been a gradual increase in the numbers of vehicles, especially HGVs using Reades Lane as a cut through from the A4074 and Horsepond Road to get to the B481 Peppard Road via Kennylands Road. The lorries are large and noisy and travel at unsuitable speeds given the lack of pavement for safe pedestrian travel, narrow sections with bends and the presence of the school in the eastern section. The road at the Gallowstree Common end is becoming increasingly damaged with patch repairs and puddle formation towards the sides of the road.
At the Gallowstree Common End residents are frequently woken by delivery lorries from a local builders merchant amongst others as the loads bounce up and down in the lorry trailers as they pass over the bumps.
Is there any way that a restriction could be placed on HGV movements along this road on the grounds of health and safety and disturbance to a residential area?

Thank you for your enquiry and please accept our apologies for the delay in response. The consideration of any new restrictions would need careful consideration and would be first best considered by your local parish council with a view to identify where any such lorries are headed. Indeed, it must be remembered that any weight restriction will also have exemptions, for example, an exemption for access within the weight limited area. If therefore the vehicles that you mention are delivering locally (eg to a local building site) then, unfortunately, any new restriction would not have any effect.
