Vegetation growing in the gutter.

Reported anonymously at 14:00, Thursday 4 June 2020

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and Vale of White Horse District Council less than a minute later

This is actually a problem in lots of parts of Wootton and the Abingdon area. Experience shows that if road gutters are not swept regularly, then vegetation grows in the accumulated dust and dirt. The roots grow down through the tarmac and become strongly embedded (I have seen tree saplings more than a meter high). Then they cannot be removed without damaging the tarmac surface. It becomes a difficult and expensive problem to remove these saplings - it makes more financial sense not to let them grow in the first place. They are also a trip hazard for pedestrians crossing the road.
