Road and Roadside Verge in Bampton
Reported anonymously at 09:25, Mon 11 May 2020
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and West Oxfordshire District Council less than a minute later
There is (or was) a grassy verge on the north side of the road from Bridge Street onto the Clanfield Road. It has had bollards along it, they gradually disappeared, the last of the two concrete ones was pushed over recently.
When I moved to Bampton in 2007 cars seldom parked on the verge; it is not actually 'pavement' where it is illegal to park, but it has become more and more the 'right' of vehicles to stop ON the verge, making it more and more difficult for people to walk along there.
I have asked people not to park on the side, and having been told I don't park there (I have elsewhere to park) I have left my car on the road there for over two weeks now.
If nothing else it has slowed the speeding traffic!
Whilst I would like the bollards to be re-instated, IF it is felt that it could be used for car parking (parking on the road would seriously slow down the traffic) then there should be a narrowing of the road, and car parking space made properly available and clearly marked, then the walkers, both those making their way into or out of the village, and those going to the allotments could pass along safely and happily and the grass verge be properly allowed to return.
