Direction Arrows all Pointing Forward

Reported in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category by Graeme Rolfe at 14:46, Friday 14 February 2020

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 4 minutes later

Approaching Littlemore roundabout from the north (Headington) all three lanes have white painted directional arrows on the road advising drivers that they can use all lanes to progress ahead to the second exit. I believe that this was brought into force following a directive from the EU, however, we are now no longer in the EU and these markings are dangerous. Can we please return to having an arrow pointing to the right in the far right hand lane?

  • Thank you for your report. We have investigated this and found that on the approach to the roundabout the road markings advise drivers to carry straight on in that lane to prevent them making an illegal right turn and proceeding around the roundabout in the wrong direction, when a vehicle has proceeded onto the roundabout in the correct lane it is then guided to the right by the next set of traffic lights. The markings are correct and comply with current UK regulations.
