Long, and unnecessary delays on the A417 at East Hendred due to the incompetence of either OCC or British Telecom.
Reported in the Current Roadworks - live information category anonymously at 08:54, Tue 11 February 2020
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 2 minutes later
I know I am wasting my cyber time here, but I am going to vent my spleen anyway.
YET AGAIN due to no one operating the temporary traffic lights at East Hendred, long delays to us poor suffering motorist have occurred.
It happens every time.
Surely someone from OCC can inform whoever puts a request in to carry out work on the A417 that they may only do so if they cause minimal delays.
The latest saga, caused this time by BT, caused a MASSIVE tailback of traffic stretching from Hendred, right back to Harwell Campus between 4pm and 7pm last night. Also, all afternoon the local radio stations were reporting long delays on the A417. The queuing traffic coming from the Wantage direction however, had only a handful of vehicles.
Surely it's not bloody difficult to realise that in the morning rush hour, the bulk of traffic is travelling from Wantage toward Rowstock, and vice versa in the evening. Yet TIME AND TIME AGAIN unnecessary long delays occur because no one has the common courtesy to manually operate the traffic lights.
Like I said right at the start, I know I am wasting my time, because OCC will now sit on this report for 3 or 4 weeks, then eventually reply saying the problem is fixed. Well it isn't bloody well FIXED, because it will happen again the next time, and subsequent times after that. OCC, all we are asking is that YOU INSIST that any work on the A417 (or anywhere else for that matter) is only permitted providing minimal delays occur. That means that you COMMUNICATE with the workmen. It is the 21st Century FFS.
ARE YOU LISTENING????
Yours Sincerely, Mr Angry. No.8 Well and truly peed off Avenue, Wantage.

I completely agree with all that has been said here. I have been commuting along this road for over 30 years and badly managed temporary traffic lights have been a continual problem. I have complained many times, but the message never seems to get through.

This problem will NEVER GO AWAY until OCC tell the workmen who request to dig up the road that THEY MUST manually operate the traffic lights at peak times, or set the phasing of them appropriately.
Yet again Monday morning (9th March) there were unnecessary delays on he A417 caused by Thames Water digging up the road at the weekend at East Hendred by the White Road Junction and not removing the lights when they finished repairs to the road on Sunday. Queues stretching back past the Lains Barn crossroads.
It's about time this was sorted ONCE AND FOR ALL. It's not as if no complaints have ever been made about it before, but TIME and TIME again OCC will not do anything to prevent delays to us long suffering motorists who commute the A417 on a daily basis.
