10 inch pothole in road outside Greenman Cottage

Reported in the Pothole category anonymously at 11:20, Sunday 19 January 2020

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 5 minutes later

This particular pothole on the road outside Greenman Cottage seems to have developed in the last week since 13th January 2020. Thames Water finally began a repair of a water leak on Sunday 5th January which had been evident throughout December. On Monday 13th January they confirmed that there was a leak at Greenman Cottage which was almost certainly caused by the lorry crash in mid-November at Yewtree Cottage and Greenman Cottage, weight of lorry (7.5tonne DAF) had fractured water supply pipe and connection into TW water meter in hedgerow but this was not identified until all debris from accident removed w/c 13 Jan. That leak has now been repaired but the various potholes in the road which seem to have arisen as a result need to be repaired urgently.

In addition road calming measures are needed on this stretch of road - at the start of December 2019 an officer from OCC Road Safety Infrastructure Operations stated “in order to address any collisions we need to be able to identify a trend or causation for those incidents – which at the moment doesn’t seem clear.” It was pointed out in reply that there have been 7 known accidents on this stretch since 2011, all involving vehicles travelling from the Nettlebed direction towards Sonning Common - 4 have resulted in severe damage to the front of Yewtree Cottage, 3 have resulted in damage to the hedge on the other side of the road, including one in which a car ended up in the field on the Dog&Duck side (Jan 2012) - and this suggests there IS a trend and a problem at this particular corner.

So far as far as we know no one from OCC Highways has visited the site and to date no further action has been taken by OCC.
