Traffic light phasing

Reported in the Traffic Lights (permanent only) category anonymously at 17:51, Friday 10 January 2020

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 4 minutes later

Coming from Cherwell drive (from Summertown) and turning left onto Marsh Lane, the traffic lights are not staying green for anywhere near long enough. I counted and it's about 12 seconds. This is enough to get around 3 cars through. It's not acceptable and is creating massive tailbacks here. Please can the phasing be re-adjusted? It needs to be at least twice as long to get a decent number of cars through. Also, why can't there be a filter for traffic turning left? This would greatly alleviate the queues.

Updates

  • Thank you for recently contacting Oxfordshire County Council regarding the Cherwell Drive / Marsh Lane traffic signal junction. An Engineer has checked the operation of the signals and found them to be working as intended and without any current faults. During busy peak times the junction operates at over capacity resulting on queues on the approaches to the junction. We believe the current signals timings are the best achievable at this site. A left turn filter cannot be provided at this location as this would conflict with the pedestrian phase across Marsh lane. We will continue to monitor the junction
