Reported in the Street lighting category anonymously at 14:31, Fri 18 October 2019
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 4 minutes later
Street lights Nos 1 & 2 not working since power cut last week. No 1 had recently been fixed but this has stopped working again along with No 2. This happened after a burnt out cable and power cut in Close last Friday. The cable has been repaired but hole not filled in. Lights may have been turned off to make repair and not turned on again.

Ref:00359562 Thank you for your report, OCC are now responding to out of lights within the contracted timescales of attending site within 7 days for repairs. If there is a cable fault this will be passed to the Electricity company to repair and will take longer, it will depend on the resources which the District Service Operator has. Thank you

The street lights are still not working. I appreciate the repair is now down to the electrical company but surely you have some responsibility for ensuring they do this in good time. We have been nearly a month now with 2 street lights out meaning it is dangerous to walk into the close in the dark as the visibility in the street is so poor. There are no lights around 2 bends so it would be very easy to misjudge where the pavement is and fall off the curb which is made up of numerous loose curb stones. How can this be marked as fixed if we are still in the dark?

SUPPLY FAULT - Passed to District Network Operator (Energy Supplier) target date 27/12/19
When our street lighting contractor previously attended site it was confirmed that there was a fault with the electricity supply to that lights rather than within the lights themselves, this fault has been reported to the Local District Network Operator (LDNO) by ourselves.
In much the same way as a typical household, Oxfordshire County Council is responsible only for the street light, but not for the electrical infrastructure outside of its own asset, the cabling serving street lights is provided and maintained by the LDNO; these are outside of the local authority control and subject to a separate regulatory framework overseen by ofgem.
Oxfordshire County Council’s contractor is not permitted in any way to interfere with or try to repair electricity supply faults, as they would be in breach of the statutory safety regulations if they tried to do so.
Once the electricity supply company advises Oxfordshire County Council the fault is rectified we will confirm this within our regular inspection programme to ensure that the light as a whole is in working order.
State changed to: not the council's responsibility
