New street light on Stert Street pointing directly into across the street flats

Reported in the Street lighting category anonymously at 12:05, Friday 18 October 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

New street lights were fitted yesterday on Stert Street - Job center plus building. The lights are really bright and feels like they are pointing directly into the windows of across the street flats. The light is going straight through the blinds. Is there anything that can be done about that please?

  • Another flat here being affected by the bright street light on Stert Street. Light is shining directly into our flat, illuminating every room. It's making it very difficult to sleep. Privacy is also being affected. The light is far too bright, it needs to be dimmed. I have already contacted the Job Centre (where the light is fixed to), Oxford Town Council and Vale of White Horse about this. They said you, Oxfordshire City Council, are responsible. Please fix asap. Resident at Abbey Yard Flat.

  • Ref:00360464 Thank you for your report, OCC are now responding to out of lights within the contracted timescales of attending site within 7 days for repairs. If there is a cable fault this will be passed to the Electricity company to repair and will take longer, it will depend on the resources which the District Service Operator has. Thank you

  • We would also like to add our complaint about this light which has been recently fitted to the Job Centre building on Stert Street. It's really too bright and dazzles us any time we have the curtains open. Even with the curtains closed it interfering with the ambience of our home and is making it tricky to sleep at night.
