Blocked roadway drains
Reported in the Blocked Drain / Gully category anonymously at 18:24, Thu 17 October 2019
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later
All the roadway drains in the area are silted with mud that is washed into them each time it rains. This is washing onto the railway track, both at the level crossing and in both directions along the line of the railway. It is undermining the integrity of the track and causing damage. The problem reappears each time there is significant rainfall and the routine cleaning of the drains is inadequate to contain the problem.

Thank you for reporting this issue. The gully issue/blockage will be included in our forthcoming gully cleansing programme. As there are limited budget we have to prioritise high flood risk areas. I am aware these were cleared recently. We will continue to monitor this on our routine inspections. Regards

The response received is unacceptable. Lack of proper road drainage, through inadequate drain / gulley cleaning is undermining the railway as already stated. This could endanger both passengers on the railway and users of the level crossing. It will also lead to expensive infrastructure damage to railway infrastructure, for which the railway may need to seek damages from the County Council.
