I travel regularly to on the Thames Travel buses, the X39, X40 and X38. The bus stop on the Dorchester by-pass (Oxford to Reading side) has a large lay-by and lorries and coaches park in it. However, because the 'bus stop' marked area is in the middle of the lay-by, these vehicles park either end of the lay-by, which means passengers at the stop cannot see if a bus is approaching. Therefore you need to stand back from the bus stop to see if the bus is coming and then take your life in your hands and stand out in the middle of the by-pass, beyond the parked vehicles, to flag the bus down. If you do not do this the bus driver cannot see you and goes by without stopping. It would be far more sensible if the ‘bus stop’ area was at the bottom end of the layby, furthest away from the bridge, allowing the coaches and lorries to park nearer the bridge and therefore not obscure any passengers waiting for the bus and giving the bus drivers a chance of stopping for them. On the other side of the by-pass (Reading to Oxford) you have done this so the lorries, coaches any other vehicles park just one end, but again it would be better if they could park furthest away from the bridge, again allowing passengers a view of the bus approaching. Also on this side, you get off the bus furthest away from the bridge and then have to walk back and around to get onto the footpath, ifthe stop was moved nearer the br

Thank you for your report. It would be unlikely that we would move the bus stop due to costing of this. However, we would into the idea of extending the bus stop clearway so that the buses have the ability to move in and out safely and improve safety for passengers. Due to time of year (financially and weather) this will more than likely be next year.
