Stone wall collapsing
Reported in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 12:32, Sat 28 September 2019

There is a stone wall on the left as you go downhill. Some time ago this wall was hit by a vehicle and the stones tumbled down onto the road, blocking one of the carriage ways which is very narrow anyway. I cleared stones away as prompted by a neighbour, who had already reported the incident to both CDC and our Parish Council. Nothing was done to repair the wall. Last week further stones tumbled onto the road. Mr Allen from 5 Rock Close nearly had a RTA, as a van coming down swerved to miss the stones and almost hit him head on. I had a similar experience a few days ago. In the mean time someone has moved the stones to the side, but again they tumbled down. Today with the help of a neighbour we went out in Hi Vis to assess the safety risks. There are heavy stones hanging on by some mortar at the top of the wall, but with no support underneath, so they soon will fall. The longer this is left the more expensive it will be to repair. It will need a road closure and I think about 4 metres of retaining wall built on a footing by the highway. I provide this detail only because I am trying to be helpful, if nothing is done I am fearful accidents will occur. Hope you can help soon and please feel free to contact me. Thank you for such a rapid response and the installation of cones and barriers to warn motorists. However, neighbour called me to say that they nearly had an accident since the barrier has been erected. I think motorists might see it quite late, the road is narrow anyway and the barriers make it even narrower, so not enough room for cars to pass each other safely. Can ?anything be done to make it safEr and I see there a date for permanent repair yet? Thanks for the help so far.

Any idea when this is going to be fixed? It's been over a year since I reported it. Many thanks. Mr B.Dodwell
