Miles of traffic light congestion

Reported in the Traffic Lights (permanent only) category by Nicola Stanton at 07:40, Fri 20 September 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 5 minutes later

Every week day there is at least a 1.3mile tailback of traffic from the Frilford Lights back toward Wantage. Most days traffic is backed up back to South Oxfordshire Crematorium, some days Venn Mill and other days worse. When you finally reach the lights there are very few cars waiting to leave Abingdon or heading toward Wantage. Can anything be done about the timings on the lights to ease this very one sided congestion? This is on going not a result of any temporary lights or roadworks.

  • Thank you for recently contacting Oxfordshire County Council regarding the A338/A415 Frilford traffic signal junction. During peak times this junction operates over capacity and therefore queues do form on the competing approaches, which in the AM peak are the A338 northbound (from Wantage) and the A415 eastbound (from Kingston Bagpuize). We have checked the operation of the site and found the junction operating as intended, reacting to both demands and extension’s registered by vehicles approaching the signals.
