HGV traffic damages

Reported anonymously at 13:54, Tuesday 17 September 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and South Oxfordshire District Council 1 minute later

High HGV traffic not respectif load limit on this road, the turn from Littleworth road onto Church Road, the weight of these vehicles dropping from pavement makes the house shake and create cracks. They have knocked down roof tiles, caught the window (we can’t open it now) and scratched many times the corner of our house. This is a grade 2 listed building. Those lorries mainly get here as shortcut to get to the A40 from ring road. Surely we could place road signs to stop them from even getting here.

  • Thank you for your report and apologies for the delay in my response. The road you have referred to in Wheatley is subject to a 7.5 tonne vehicle weight restriction, however this restriction has an 'Except for Access' clause which permits a vehicle over the posted weight limit to enter the restricted area if it has a legitimate reason for example to deliver to a property within the restriction itself. I can therefore confirm that the vehicle weight restriction is correctly signed.

  • Yes but there is clearly an issue with the width of those lorries which is unsuitable, clearly for this narrow passage.

  • As you can see the damages are getting worse, surely we can put a width limit
