M40 and left only arrow worn away

Reported in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category anonymously at 13:49, Wednesday 4 September 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later

Vehicles are using the far left hand lane on the A418 which has been marked up as M40 and with a directional arrow showing that they must turn left. Because the wording and sign has now worn away vehicle owners think that because the middle lane has a tail back they can use the left lane and then move into the lane on the roundabout to go over the M40 motorway. This has caused many near accidents because the driver is in the wrong lane and cuts up those drivers who are in the correct lane. May I suggest that not only are the road markings re-painted very clearly but at least two signs be put up making it very clear that the left lane is Motorway Traffic only. This has been an issue now for many months and several times now I personally have had to brake hard to avoid a collision. This action can also mean that a vehicle behind me could run into my car.

  • It is dangerous here, the lines are all worn away. It is unclear which lane to be in for firs time users of the road because a few of the roads off the roundabouts are no entry. Please re-paint lines asap.
