Horrific potholes on a 70mph DC
Reported in the Pothole category anonymously at 10:17, Wed 28 August 2019
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later
The road has sunk, and massive potholes occurred, on a road with a 70mph limit for car.
Going over at even 50mph causes serious banging and will damage suspension or worse cause lack of control.
This is on the Eastbound A420 towards Botley Junction/Oxford.
Council ref: ENQ19841334

Thank you for your report. I have visited the site, on the A420, you pinpointed on the map and couldn't find the horrific potholes you refer to, see photos. There are, however, depressions in the carriageway that, unfortunately, don't meet our current intervention criteria, so I cannot arrange an immediate repair. This area of carriageway has, however, been submitted for programmed repairs. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor this area during our routine inspections.

Hi, many thanks for visiting.
While I'm sure they don't meet your expectation of a pothole in the normal sense, when travelling at 70mph, they most definitely cause more deflection, suspension bangs etc.
If you cannot repair immediately, would it not be wise to move up the "programmed" repairs? Or put a warning sign up in the meantime.

The depressions are ridiculous. Please fix. Also note that the recent mowing was not didn’t bother to pick up the litter. So the a420, main road into Oxford, looks like the road into a slum. Great job council team.

Huge subsidence in lane 1 Oxford bound. Enough at 70 to cause loss of control of vehicle.

The resurfacing work has been programmed in for the evening of 16 November through to the early hours of the 17th November under a road closure. It is aknowledged that the surface is uneven, however it still isn't bad enough to be considered for emergency works. We will continue to monitor it and take remedial action where appropriate.

Just to clear up any confusion here... this is a hazard!!! Whilst driving over this patch of road on Tuesday 8th Oct, my new run flat tyre side wall burst at an expense of £325 for call out charge and fitting. I could have easily lost control if i was a less experienced driver... no warning signs?!?!?!
