Issue with tree roots invading our garden from those planted on Buckingham Road

We live on Hornbeam Road and are having problems with the tree roots from the trees on the Buckingham Road outside of our boundary fence. They have come up on top of our lawn and my husband had to cut them out of the lawn, they'd also started to go under our patio. We are now seriously concerned about what they are doing below the surface. I believe that the house two doors down from us had a similar issue a couple of years ago which resulted in trees backing on to their property being thinned out. I thought I had reported this a couple of weeks ago but I've had no response.
